**Georgia elementary students participating in the Great Potato STEM Challenge have a new understanding of how potatoes used for French fries grow.

www.morningagclips.com reports the competition, coordinated by the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture, in partnership with Georgia Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom, is designed to let teachers and students use science, technology, engineering, and math skills to explore agriculture.

This year, students observed the potato’s growth patterns in soil, hydroponically, and in a petri dish.
