There’s nothing more fundamental to agriculture than water. And although water availability is a hot topic, water quality is an extremely important factor as well. Jimmy Pettis is an agriculture sales manager for water treatment solutions provider Apollo Ag Technologies. He says poor water quality can affect the crop and the bottom line.

Pettis… “Scaling is probably something that most farmers with any type of engineered irrigation is gonna be familiar with. Here in California, we do have some hard water, so people are familiar with hard water spotting, whether it's, on shower glass or cups in a home. But whenever you're dealing with an irrigation system that's applying millions of gallons of water over time, you're gonna have precipitants that build up and have scale formation. That will reduce the efficiency of the system, especially with emitters. They're engineered to, to let out just the right amount of water in perfect conditions. And so when you're out there and you have water passing through leaving some scale behind that can negatively impact your uniformity in the application.”

Apollo has a presence helping farmers with water quality in California, Arizona and Texas.
