New Favorite

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you know my favorite wine is usually the wine in my glass at the time. Last week I had a delicious dinner with Spanish food and I want to tell you about two wines that were fabulous with it.

Foods with Spanish influence are a favorite of mine. I am always amazed at how different styles of Paella will join so well to many different wines.  Recently I had a chicken & chorizo paella with two styles of Syrah, the first a Rose’ the second a beautiful example of Syrah as a serious red wine. Both wines were from Olsen Estates. The Rose’ was chilled and sublime. This wine goes with many foods – in fact is was a favorite this past Thanksgiving.  For me the Syrah grape produces wines that are perfumed and elegant. Depending on the style, as was the case of the 2006 Olsen Estates Syrah there was a slightly earthy elegance and sophistication that made it a pleasurable wine even without food. In the Rose’ the fragrance can be fleeting and you find yourself swirling the wine in your glass in a desperate attempt to recapture that first whiff of strawberry or was it raspberry or cherry? It is gorgeous. I also like them with drier cheeses and hearty breads and it was amazing with our paella of course. They may be a bit hard to find but you can always visit the winery in Prosser or go on line to the website olsen estates dot com., and try my new favorite wines, and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
