Ellensburg Wine Festival

Ellensburg Wine Festival. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

It does seem that spring is finally trying to break free and with it is the Ellensburg Wine Festival this weekend according to David Winters, World Wine Program Assistant at Central Washington University.

WINTERS: It is a collaboration between the Central Washington University Global Wine Studies program and the Chamber of Commerce here in Ellensburg and we’ve been doing consumer classes here in the wine program for the last 6 years and the last event of this series of classes has been for the last 4 years is what we call the Wonderful Washington Wine and Cuisine Event.

Winters says that this year’s event will be moved into downtown Ellensburg so more people can get involved.

WINTERS: Definitely consumer oriented for the wineries to be able to get out in front of people who maybe haven’t experienced their wines in the past. We have about 30 wineries that are going to be there, everybody’s pouring 2 to 4 wines and we’ll have everything from a Chardonnay to whatever you can imagine.

Most of the various venues will feature food and entertainment as well. Some of the Central Washington classes are open to anyone.

WINTERS: Anybody who is over 21 and wants to learn more about wine and then new have a couple other things going on, we have the certification program. It’s an intensive one-quarter set of classes where you learn the business of the wine world.
