"What questions do they have and how can we better connect farmers and ranchers with our customers and give them information about any concerns they might have about how food is produced. Because ultimately our goal is to help people make informed choices in the grocery store and restaurants and any time they're trying to decide what kind of food products to buy and what to feed their family. So what better way to do that than to hear that directly from consumers themselves." Those words come from Hannah Thompson, spokesperson for The Animal Agriculture Alliance.

The Animal Agriculture Alliance's 2019 Stakeholders Summit themed, A Seat At The Table, will feature conversations about hot issues in animal agriculture... Gene editing, meat alternatives and blockchain. The event will be held May 8-9 at the InterContinental at the Plaza Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. Discounted registration rates are available through April 1. To view the agenda and register, visit http://summit.animalagalliance.org. Three experts will bring their unique perspectives to the table to discuss three hot topics - gene editing, alternative proteins and blockchain technology. Attendees will hear the latest updates in each area and have the opportunity to ask questions about what impacts each subject may have on their business.

"The blockchain is an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to record not just financial transactions but virtually everything of value." – Don & Alex Tapscott, authors Blockchain Revolution (2016).

A blockchain is, in the simplest of terms, a time-stamped series of immutable record of data that is managed by cluster of computers not owned by any single entity. Each of these blocks of data (i.e. block) are secured and bound to each other using cryptographic principles (i.e. chain).

Panelists include Jane Andrews, a retail nutrition consultant, Christine McCracken, executive director of animal protein, Rabobank and Andy Brudtkuhl, director of emerging technology, National Pork Board. The panel will be moderated by Chuck Jolley, president of Jolley & Associates, a Kansas City-based marketing and public relations firm that concentrates on the food industry.

Jane Andrews is a retail nutrition consultant who focuses on the health implications and consumer understanding of innovative food production technologies. After 30 years of service she recently retired as nutrition and labeling manager for Wegmans Food Markets. She is a 2014 inductee to the Purdue University Nutrition Science Hall of Fame and was honored to present the 2014 Lenna Francis Cooper Lecture at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Meeting in Atlanta.

Christine McCracken is executive director of animal protein at Rabobank. She covers the North American poultry and hog sector. Before joining the RaboResearch team, McCracken spent 18 years as a sell-side food & agribusiness analyst. She has previously been named Best on the Street Food Analyst by the Wall Street Journal and the top Food Analyst by Forbes.

Andy Brudtkuhl is the director of emerging technology at the National Pork Board. He works on developing an innovation pipeline for the U.S. Pork industry. He works with farmers, startups, accelerators, venture capitalists, universities, and partners in the pork value chain to build an ecosystem, invest in the future, and commercialize research.
