Beef Counts Pt 1

I'm Bob Larson. It's that time of year again when Washington's beef community gets together to help feed the less fortunate during the holidays ...

SAM ELLIOTT ... "Beef ... it's what's for dinner ... "

Local ranchers, Agri Beef representatives, Rosauers/Super 1 volunteers, FFA members, and others spent three days giving out 3-to-4 pound roasts with other fresh food in Toppenish, Yakima, and Ellensburg ...

SAMI JO SIMS ... "Well, we are out here today in Ellensburg. It's a little chilly, but we're all here with smiles on our faces at the Washington Cattlemen's

Association building here in Ellensburg and Kittitas County cattlemen and women are here. We've got some high-schoolers here that are out helping our community pass out food. It's been a really great event today."

I asked Ellensburg FFA advisor Sami Jo Sims how many families they saw last Thursday ...

SAMI JO SIMS ... "Today, we've had 300, 300 families today and we've distributed 10-thousand pounds of food."

She says the first two days were productive as well ...

SAMI JO SIMS ... "On Tuesday, we served 232 families and, again, 10-thousand pounds of food. And on Wednesday, we did 353 families and about 85-hundred pounds of food."

The Beef Counts program has been providing high quality protein to the less fortunate for the past seven years through Second Harvest.

Listen tomorrow for more this program and how it all comes together.
