Wheat Tour for Media Pt 1

I'm Bob Larson. Washington wheat growers held a tour recently to talk with the media about what they do, how they do it, and where their product goes once harvested. It was a first-ever event held by the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and Vice President Marci Green says it was meant to be educational ..

MARCI GREEN ... "You know, a lot of the people involved in media haven't had a lot of background in agriculture. So, that was our goal, was just to introduce them to what we do, why we do it and our objectives are, obviously, to earn a living and to be good stewards and good members of our communities and provide a good quality product to our customers."

Green says it wasn't a huge crowd, but drew media from across the state ...

MARCI GREEN ... "It was very well received. We had, probably, six or seven people there from the media, some people from Spokane, from the Seattle area and points in between. And, it seemed to be very well received. Some of them had a lot of background in agriculture and some were starting at ground-zero, so we had a good mix."

The tour started with a visit to Green View Farms near Fairfield where media spoke with farmers and had equipment demonstrations before moving on the McCoy Grain Terminal to see grading, testing and transportation before meeting with the Grain Commission to talk with grain exporters.
