I'm Bob Larson. A record in eastern Washington for 76 consecutive days with snow covering traditionally dry wheat fields. But, employees at the WSU's Dryland Research Station in Lind say that doesn't tell the entire moisture story ...

BILL SCHILLINGER ... "We record a temperature basically by crop-year, which is September 1 through August 31, and through the end of April we've received, at the Lind Station, 13.62 inches of precip. And that's the most ever in 97 years of the official recording of weather data at the station."

Professor Bill Schillinger says it blew the rainfall record through April ... out of the water...

BILL SCHILLINGER ... "The second highest year-to-date was 1941 when the station received 12.67 inches of rain, so almost an inch difference. So, this is the wettest crop year so far in 97 years of recorded history at the station."

But, Schillinger says there's still plenty of time to break the all-time record...

BILL SCHILLINGER ... "As of today, we've received 14.05 inches, so it continues to add on and we're currently in 4th place EVER for the crop year. Keep in mind the crop year goes through August 31st, so even if the precips stopped today, we'd still be fourth record high in 97 years."

Employees at the Lind Station have been recording weather data, by hand, every afternoon, seven days a week, including Christmas and New Year's Day, for 102 years.
