Washington Ag March 29, 2005 Nice soaking rain over this past weekend came as good news to all sectors of Washington Agriculture. That's the word of the Washington Agricultural Statistics Service in a Crop Weather Report issued Monday. Dry Benton County had reported receiving 37/100`s of an inch of rain. There was over an inch reported in areas of Adams County. Walla Walla, Whitman and Spokane counties had reports of an inch and a half and reports of two inches in Pend Oreille. But more rain will be needed to sustain crops. The Statistics Service rated Washington's dryland winter wheat crop at seven percent excellent, 57% Good, 31 percent Fair, three percent Poor and two percent Very Poor. Forty six percent of the state's spring wheat is reported as planted with 13 percent emerged. Thirty-one percent of the barley crop has been planted, six percent of potatoes and 14% of dry peas. Washington's pasture condition is pegged at only 17% Good, 36% Fair, 29 % Poor and 18% Very Poor. Stone fruits, pears and tulip fields were reported in bloom.
