I'm Bob Larson. If you're going to put all your nutritional foods in one basket, make sure you include eggs. Recent studies have found new evidence that eggs are no longer a cholesterol worry, but instead, a great brain food.

Dr. Tia Raines, with the Egg Nutrition Center, says one of two specific nutrients found in eggs is Choline ...

DR. TIA RAINES ... "The reason choline is important is really for your brain health. It's crucial for pregnant women and early childhood development. It helps the brain form those neural connections. And, it is also important in the later ends of life in terms of preserving brain function as we get older. And again, it's hard to find that in a diet except for liver, but eggs is the next best source."

Dr. Raines says another nutrient linked to brain health is Lutein, long associated with eye health ...

DR. TIA RAINES ... "So, we know that Lutein accumulates in the back of the eye and it acts as a shield from the blue light all around us, especially coming off screens, computer screens and phone screens, and acts as a filter to protect the eye. But, what we found, and this is just hot off the presses research in the last year, is that Lutein also is linked to cognitive function. So, it's been linked to academic performance in children and it's also been linked to memory in adults."

Dr. Raines says just one egg per day has also been found to improve growth and reduce signs of under-nutrition in children from third-world countries.
