This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

The American Farm Bureau Federation's 95th Annual Convention is under way in San Antonio, Texas. President Bob Stallman says farmers and ranchers are focused on the opportunities and challenges of the present - keeping their eyes on the road ahead. If farmers and ranchers keep their commitment to learn from the past, look toward the future and never let go of the wheel - Stallman says Farm Bureau will have a bright future.

Nearly a hundred agriculture and food-related groups have signed a letter in strong support of the confirmation of Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Darci Vetter as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. The letter notes that U.S. agricultural exports are valued at near 140-billion dollars for 2013 and agriculture remains one of the few sectors in the overall economy showing a positive trade balance for decades.

House Ag Committee Chair Frank Lucas says final action on a farm bill conference report will likely slip to late January. Lucas still says the farm bill needs to be done as soon as possible - but he can't move until some big issues are addressed.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
