Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 10/29/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

Reser's Fine Foods of Beaverton, Oregon is voluntarily expanding its October 22 recall of refrigerated ready-to-eat products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were manufactured at the Topeka, KS salad manufacturing facility. No other Reser's manufacturing facilities are involved in this recall. Consumers who purchased the product may take it back to the store for a refund or discard it.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients will see their monthly benefits decrease beginning on November 1st. The amount of SNAP benefits each eligible household receives depends on many factors, such as income, household size and expenses. This change will affect each household. To make sure you get the correct SNAP benefit, give your caseworker information about your household.

Gasoline prices in the northwest have been coming down. So much so that in some places they are dipping below the $3 a gallon mark. Some experts are saying the prices could remain low during the holidays. A number of factors are influencing the lower prices and are part of a national trend. Hard to believe we are getting excited over $3 a gallon gasoline.
