Agribusiness Update for Thursday 7/25/13

Two Senators have introduced legislation to protect livestock and poultry farmers from having personal information released by the Environmental Protection Agency. The bill stems from the release of the personal information of more than 80-thousand livestock and poultry owners from across the country to three activist groups.

WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy, in his farewell statement to the General Council on 24 July 2013, said: “It has been an immense honor and privilege to serve this organization. I think it is fair to say that, together, we have strengthened the WTO as the global trade body, as a major pillar of global economic governance. Despite the heavy headwinds and the turmoil in the global economy as well as on the geo-political scene, together we have made this organization larger and stronger.”

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State University will not accept horses for anything but emergency services until at least Tuesday, July 30, due to an outbreak of equine influenza virus at the hospital. The virus is a highly contagious respiratory disease in horses that typically is not fatal. Other than equines, the situation will not affect the care of any other small or large animals at the hospital.
