Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 5/8/13

Mild weather seems to be bringing out the crops as well as the bugs. Swarms of flying carpenter ants have invaded eastern Washington’s Palouse region. The ants don’t bite or sting but the sheer numbers have been creating a nuisance for residents. Scientists warn ag producers to keep a close eye out for other crop destroying pests.

First Lady Michelle Obama stopped by the Department of Agriculture last week to thank Ag Secretary Vilsack for his outstanding service of USDA from the beginning of the Obama Administration. From day one - Obama says Vilsack has led with passion and vision and an unyielding commitment to the department’s mission.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reminds employers that they must now use the revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification N for all new hires and reverifications. All employers are required to complete and retain a Form I-9 for each employee hired to work in the United States.
