Agribusiness Update for Wednesday 4/17/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

Late last week - a landmark agreement on immigration reform was reached by the Agriculture Workforce Coalition, the United Farm Workers and key Senators. Leaders of the Coalition will hold a press conference today to highlight the crucial stake American agriculture has in immigration reform.
The Senate has sent its 2014 budget resolution to the House for consideration. This step was needed before the House could move to convene a conference committee to reconcile its budget with the Senate version. The two measures are very different - and it’s unclear if the House GOP will even move to create a conference.

USDA is taking a proactive approach in simplifying the application process for loans and grants through Rural Development’s Rural Energy for America Program - or REAP. The National Farmers Union is pleased and says energy programs play a pivotal role in strengthening rural economic development and creating opportunities for rural America.
