Agribusiness Update for Friday 4/12/13

The USDA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with five agencies to continue to work together to reduce by 50 percent the number of tribal homes lacking access to safe water and basic sanitation by 2015. The announcement was made during the 2013 Tribal Utility Summit in Nashville, Tenn.

Brazil is temporarily waiving the 10 percent common external tariff on wheat for up to a million tons of wheat from non-Mercosur countries. Brazil took the action due to a shortage of wheat from Mercosur countries. Brazil is one of the top three wheat importing countries in the world.

Dutch authorities are recalling 50,000 metric tons of meat sold as beef across Europe because it may contain horse meat and they cannot verify the source. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority says the meat came from two Dutch wholesalers and was sold to some 370 companies around Europe.
