Agribusiness Update for Friday 2/8/13

This is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

By now you’ve heard that the U.S. Postal Service plans to stop delivering mail on Saturdays beginning in August. National Farmers Union says the elimination of Saturday delivery - coupled with the loss of good-paying postal jobs around the country - will negatively impact the economy. He says the impacts on rural America will be especially harmful.

Immigration was the topic of news conferences, meetings at the White House and a House Judiciary Committee hearing earlier this week. A Tuesday hearing was focused on border security, the history of immigration law and the issue of allowing highly educated people to enter or remain in the country, Chairman Bob Goodlatte mentioned agriculture in his opening statement saying U.S. laws erect unnecessary hurdles for farmers who put food on America’s tables.

According to a poll commissioned by the Renewable Fuels Association and conducted by American Viewpoint - 64-percent of Americans support the Renewable Fuel Standard. The poll showed just 25-percent are opposed to the RFS. RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen says it’s clear Americans believe the RFS is an important federal policy that results in more energy independence, more job creation and a cleaner environment.
