Agribusiness Update For Wednesday 1/16/13

Agribusiness UpdateThis is the Agribusiness Update...I’m Greg Martin...

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is staying on for a second term. Visack said that he and the President, quote, share a deep appreciation for rural America and its unlimited potential in the years ahead to feed a growing world population, revolutionize America’s energy, further protect our natural resources and create more jobs here at home.

Also yesterday the USDA announced a new microloan program designed to help small and family operations, beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers secure loans under $35,000. A couple of benefits to the new program are less forms to submit and a shorter amount of experience is necessary for application.

Finally, Collegiate FFA, a program of the National FFA Organization, is now accepting applications for its 2013 International Collegiate Agricultural Leadership program. FFA will take 12 college students pursuing degrees in the agricultural field to Brazil this spring. Application deadline is Jan. 30?

That’s today’s Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network.
