Fun with Permits

During a conversation with seasoned salt water fisherman Nick Koontz, he asked to me if I knew anything about permit Fish. "I know permit fish because I have talked to a guide who fished for them and I would describe them as a pan fish only about 35 times the size. That's right. They are kind of round. They look kind of like a tuna. People get them confused with a tuna. What is the action like? Are they fierce fighters? What's the draw? Oh yeah. You use nine width fly rods and you get even a 10 or 12 pound permit on and they are crazy. It's all about trying to get one. I always look at it like shooting a dahl sheep or some rare animal. It's a rush because when you get one you might have been fishing for four days without getting one. So when you get one it is incredible. The other thing that people don't realize about any type of salt water fishing is you don't really cast that often. You are mostly looking for them. It can be boring just standing there at the front of the boat.
