A new non-toxic insect repellent. I will never forget a trip that I took to Corpus Christi on a white tail hunt. The first thing I was told was make sure that you tape off your pant legs and wear long socks because of the chiggers. Secondly, douse yourself with DEET because of the mosquitoes. I can tell you that neither one worked. I got chiggers around my ankles that lasted four months and I was eaten alive. In fact, it was so bad, one of my buddies shot a white tail and we walked about 100 yards and recovered it and the deer was 100% covered with mosquitoes. You couldn't see the hide. Oh, before I forget, the guide was wearing snake proof boots which was a good thing because we ran across two rattlesnakes on the way to recover the deer.

On another trip, way up to the northern reaches of Québec, Canada on a caribou hunt, our party had to wear hats that had nets that had to be tied off at the neck. The reason? Black flies which will, again, eat you alive. I have heard that black flies will put a full-grown moose on the run. Doesn't this all sound like hunting is a fun thing? Well there may be a solution for all of these bug problems. Here is Emily Dix from a company called Proven® Repellent out of Kansas City. "It works on mosquitoes, ticks, black flies, no see-ums." the active ingredient in the repellent is (Picaridin), which is recommended by the EPA, Word Health Organization and CDC as an effective repellent against mosquito-borne illnesses.
