If you've ever hunted fished or, recreated on public lands, then you will appreciate Field & Stream's February/March edition which celebrates America's icons. David Sparks, Sportsmen's Spotlight with editor-in-chief Colin Kearns. Our public lands and waters are the greatest gift to American outdoorsmen—ever. With the future of some of these places uncertain, the strongest case to be made for keeping them public is simply to use them, enjoy them, and share your experiences with others. Here are five perfect places to start. The native bird: chasing sharp tales on BLM land in Montana. A stand in the Valley: deer hunting the Hachie national wildlife refuge in Tennessee. Hills to die on: Elk hunting Montana's Durfees. Breaking the ice: mallards on the Montezuma national wildlife refuge. A place to escape: the boundary waters Canoe area wilderness.
