if you really want to learn how to hunt, hook up with Mike Jenkins of Upfront Outfitters in Washington state. "I started up Northwest School for Hunters just so I can teach people. There is so much free information on hunting out there but a lot of it is bad information. The celebrities on TV, there's only a handful of them that are really solid hunters. TV is not reality. And a lot of the magazines that you read, I read a lot of these articles and I think to myself, who in the heck wrote this? This is not what we should be teaching our new hunters. You will learn everything from ethics to conservation, taking care of our land, animal tracks, animal behavior, first aid, survival in the woods, how to set up shelters, how to build fires, shot placement, just about anything you can think of that has to do with the outdoors. It's not always about shooting an animal. A lot of times it's just about navigation so that you get to where the animals are so you can have a good opportunity. I have courses on map and compass, survival where we will go out for three days with our bare minimum and we will stay in lien to shelters that we build. We will eat berries and plants and fish from the streams. It isn't just about hunting but with the hunting, I will teach elk behavior, deer behavior, how to track the animals. Anything I can think of that I can cover to help you become a better hunter and outdoorsman.
