I prefer our dogs to point and hold forever. Until we get into the right position, I don't want them to flush. I want to flush the chuckers myself. I want those dogs to locate them but to stay off the birds. I'd rather my dog pointed those birds 20 to 30 yards away so that I can catch up to them because usually they are way out ahead and then get the other guys in so we can corral them. The best chucker hunting terrain in North America, in my opinion, is Eastern Oregon and the Idaho area around the Snake River. And then you can get into Nevada down around the Winnemucca area between Jordan Valley and Winnemucca. So those are the best chucker hunting places in North America. We are fortunate to be living right in it and because I grew up in Ontario, that is predominantly where I hunt. Basically the area between Burns and Baker and Jordan Valley, that little triangle right in there is high desert, lots of rocks, gotta find water, make sure you got a four-wheel-drive, shovel and a jack. It's not the gentleman's quail hunt on a Georgia plantation. It's get yourself ready to hike. You better be in shape because you are going to work your butt off and that is half the fun of chucker hunting to is that you have to work so hard for them so when you finally get into them it is very rewarding.
