Spring Turkey Hunt

My career, in terms of hunting stories, there are more filled with almost instead of successes. But that kind of weaves a tapestry of the chase and the hunt. I just had to tell you a great about my turkey season last year which lasted all of about four hours. I was just tied up with so many other things that I couldn't get out. I pitch and hold about four hours away on one Saturday, day after opener, it would have been a Sunday and I got out to my buddy's property west of Spokane. Hadn't done any scouting but had done some deer hunting on his property and it seemed like there should be turkeys. I knew there were some around but I didn't know if there would be any on my buddy's land. I sat up in the morning before daylight and let the forest wake up and off in the distance I hear a couple of roost gobbles. I know at least I've got some in the area. About 20 minutes after daylight, a hen flies into the field I am facing. I'm nestled up against a great big ponderosa pine. Then another hen and another. Finally the big gobbler flies down. They are 400 or 500 yards off so I know I have a bit of work ahead of me. I need to try and get them to come to where I need to be to get a good shot. I started slow playing it with a mouth call and he would answer me back every time but I didn't want to overcall him because as with big boss Tom's, it's really tough to pull them away sometimes from the hens when there are already 4 or 5 hens sitting around him. What happens next, tomorrow.
