6-10 SS Water Conditions

6-10 SS Water Conditions

After battling tough conditions much of the spring, the Yakima River is back in great shape and it is time to grab a rod, a box of Caddis flies, and go fishing!  The Caddis hatch is going steady with opportunities to fish dry flies happening daily.  While not every day is epic, there will certainly be a few that are among the best dry fly fishing of the year!  We expect the river to hold on strong with reasonable day time temperatures keeping the remaining snow pack at bay. Here’s USDA /NRCS spokesperson in Idaho, Julie Koeberle on water conditions: “It’s definitely going to have an effect on recreation and especially fishing with high water it’s just generally not the best conditions where you need those pools and slow-moving water where the fish would be. When it’s moving really fast then it’s really good for people who like whitewater  like rafters and kayakers and need an adrenaline rush, then they’re going to have a good dose of that this year. Another good thing about it though is that it will be sustained good flows throughout the summer so if people want to go fishing later in the season the streams won’t be too low, there will be healthy flows clear into September
