 Casting for the cure, A flyfishing program to help women recover from breast cancer.The web site says A Casting for Recovery weekend is about empowerment. Knowing little about fly fishing, women learn the basics while experiencing a spirit of trust and sharing that cannot be put into words.

Participating at your own comfort level, you will find new strength, joy, and confidence, leaving the retreat with a belief in your ability to master the challenges ahead. Here is the spokesperson for the program in Washington state, Judy Graham:“ Casting for Recovery is for women who are recovering from breast cancer and it is for women in any stage of recovery so they can have it in the middle of therapy or they could’ve had it 15 years ago. We use fly fishing as a tool to get the women together but the casting motion and flyfishing is really good for the pectoral muscles, if they had a lot of lymph nodes taken out it helps to rebuild their muscles after a mastectomy or a double mastectomy. It’s a weekend retreat Friday through Sunday and it is completely paid for by donations from flyfishing clubs or private donations through flyfishing sponsors so it’s completely free to the women. Every state is different but our retreat this year is at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop which is a pretty resort with nice rooms and we just spoil them. There are more than just flyfishing components, there is a mental health component with counseling, there is a doctor or a nurse, a psychologist or a counselor and then the flyfishing.
