10-29 SS Shotgun Weight

10-29 SS Shotgun Weight

Hi everyone. This is Sportsmen’s Spotlight and I’m David Sparks. The weight factor in shotguns next. The other day we were discussing gas vs. recoil shotguns and we learned that gas action semiautomatic guns tend to be a little heavier than recoil. That can weigh in heavily, pardon the pun, depending on the kind of hunting you’re gonna do. Well Benelli has a model called the Ultralight and Dennis Valentine from Cabella’s tells us about it.

There’s another side to shotgun weight however and shotgun expert Randy Wakeman points out it’s a matter of simple physics. Shotgun weight affects recoil on approximately a "one-to-one" ratio. Add 10% to a specific shotgun's weight, it kicks about 10% less. Lighten our shotgun by about 10%; it kicks about 10% more. That's all there is to it.
