This is your Northwest report for Wednesday, March 22 I’m David Sparks. Speaking at the agri-pulse Farm Bill Summit in Washington American Farm Bureau president Zippy Duvall was calling for togetherness. He said agriculture cannot allow disengagement when pushing for the next farm bill. "We have to stay engaged, we have to make sure that the people we represent understand the issues and give us the feedback so that we can prepare the next farm bill that will keep our rural communities growing, our farmers and ranchers and their families on the land and provide a great safety net for the food security of this great country because the only countries that are strong in the world are the ones that can feed themselves and can help feed others.” National Council of Farmers Cooperative CEO Chuck Connor says agriculture should recognize the strength of its differences and use that to build on its togetherness. “Agriculture needs to go in this farmBill process recognizing that diversity with a unified message. I also believe that if we are able to tap into grassroots populism that exists around the countryside today and that populism that was instrumental in the election results last November we will have a, significant and good farm bill.”
