We have been hearing in recent weeks that federal protections for wolves were going to be removed. Now there are rumblings, from liberal politicians that protection of wolves should continue. Apparently these folks aren't listening to the agricultural community. Cattle rancher Phil Davis has watched wolves praying on his cattle herd for over 20 years. “There is a suggestion that we require designation of wolves changed from game animal to a special predator. This is a good group to give you some help because everybody has their perspective. They are always looking out for the good of agriculture so it’s a good group.” Davis and the group discussed how to word the three resolutions he proposed and move them along. The sooner the better he said “It’s big and now it’s getting really big because we are losing so much livestock. Unless we act now, I don’t know if we can get a handle on the number of wolves.” State Farm Bureau Pres., Brian Searle: “ It’s not getting better, it’s getting worse and we have to do something and we do that through the policy procedure.” Volunteers with common sense and issues to address. The start of grassroots representation and problem solving, the trademark of the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation, Idaho’s largest general farm organization and the voice of Idaho agriculture.

Davis, who has had more than 60 wolf kills on the family’s private land since the mid-1990s, was surprised by the incident. “That’s the real sickening part about this, they say they’re not surplus killers, they don’t kill for sport, what do you call this?” Davis said. “Of our six depredations in 2017, three of them were full-grown cows. So they’re getting more bold, more adept at it, and they’re killing cows, not just calves now.”
