Is it possible to thank our farmers in this country. The last several years have been very difficult between commodity prices, pressures from regulatory agencies and growing concerns over trade problems. The world population is growing exponential and farmers are having to feed the people. The Washington Policy Center, focusing just on the state of Washington, recently looked at the variety of pressures facing farmers and growers, outside of feeding a growing world population.

WPC’s Madi Clark says one of the top struggles is meeting consumer demand that food remain affordable. Currently Americans spend 6.1 percent of their income on food at home and that figure increases the more consumers dine out. This American figure is the lowest in the world. That expectation, and the fact that there are so many competitors nationally and internationally, can make profits hard to come by.
