"The WISErganic website has a provocative statement. Fertilizer that's good enough to eat? Not that you would... but when we're crafting fertilizers from nutritious food scraps collected from places like your neighborhood grocery store, it's not as far fetched as it might sound. Our WISErganic fertilizer starts with food scraps from produce, fish, meat, etc. The food scraps are then loaded into a WISErg Harvester located at grocery stores and commercial kitchens. The Harvester stabilizes and transforms the food scraps into nutrient-rich liquid. Once stabilized in the Harvester, materials are transferred to a nearby WISErg facility, where they are processed into fertilizer." Sounds good. Sounds sustainable, organic, ecosystem friendly... All the buzzwords that we love to hear. But does it work?

WISErganic CEO Larry LeSueur : "On the potato side that's where this gets exciting. Across all of our crops we're seeing in excess of 12% to 14% increase in crop yields. We're also seeing evidence that healthy soils are definitively helping the plants remain healthy. So for organic growers that's a fantastic story, for conventional growers we're seeing and we're starting to collect the data that says with that healthier soil they need to apply less pesticides and herbicides to address issues that unhealthy soils create complications on." You hear the phrase, if it sounds too good to be true, all the time. But maybe this is the real deal.
