Benefits of Artificial Insemination

In today's U.S. beef cattle industry, ranchers need to utilize every tool available to help maximize profit on the ranch and still deliver a high-quality beef product to the consumer. And one of those tools is Artificial Insemination.

Garrett Tschida is Agri Beef's Double R Ranch Livestock Program Assistant and tells us more about the benefits of using AI versus traditional breeding methods.

"It's a very cost-effective way for ranchers to get new genetics from all over the United States as well as internationally to some of the top performing bulls in the industry. They can do this very cost effective without having to house a bull that may tear down your corrals. Another benefit to artificial insemination is can reduce on farm capital expenses that's being spent on bulls."

AI also offers ranchers the option of choosing whether they want bull calves or heifer calves. Of course bull calves ultimately become steers which tend to bring more money on sale day.
