The wine industry has become one of Idaho's newest and biggest tourist attraction. When I first came to Idaho, I was so excited about the snowcapped mountains, raging rivers, over the top abundant wildlife and is one of the coolest Western cities this country has to offer. That's what I told friends and anybody who would listen. When I thought of wine, I thought of Napa, California or, more recently, Walla Walla, Washington. I am delighted to say I have to adjust my thinking. Just for fun, I called up the Idaho Wine Commission and asked for a comparison between Idaho and Walla Walla. "We do feel that Idaho competes very nicely with Walla Walla. I am sure that people know there are a number of nice wineries within Walla Walla's city limits and if you look at Boise we have about 30 wineries within 30 minutes of Boise so we are comparing nicely to Walla Walla in terms of the number of wineries within the city limits and just outside the city limits. What about the quality of the winds in Idaho? Idaho wine is fabulous. If you have not tried it you definitely need to. We compete with the best of them and we have been winning lots of awards, gold, silver and bronze medals in the majority of the wine competitions in this country.
