Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had 700 tons of hay trade. Compared to last week, export and domestic alfalfa were steady in a light test. Trade was slow with good demand as most interests are waiting for new crop. Some areas have starting new crop with most activity will occur next week. Alfalfa premium quality that was tarped sold $130 per ton. Wheat straw mid squares of good quality sold for $55 per ton."

In Idaho compared to the previous week, domestic alfalfa was steady. Trade moderate with good demand for new crop. Some new crop hay was reported with growers paying for the tarping. Mid Squares of premium to supreme alfalfa new crop sold for $150 per ton while tarped mid squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $135 per ton.

In Oregon prices trended generally steady in a limited test compared to the previous week's prices. In Central Oregon large squares of premium alfalfa sold for $180 per ton. In Lake County large squares of supreme alfalfa sold for $180 per ton. In Klamath Basin small squares of premium alfalfa/orchard mix sold for $170 per ton. In Harney County large squares of supreme alfalfa sold between $160 and $180 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa/orchard mix rated premium contracted sold for $130 per ton.
