“The data support zero of their claims. The data show abundantly and very clearly that glyphosate one of the safest chemicals ever used in agriculture. It is less toxic than chocolate, salt or vinegar.” Those are words coming from Dr. Val Giddings, Senior Analyst for Information Technology and Innovation Foundation in Washington DC regarding the claims from a number of organizations that glyphosate, the herbicide present in Roundup is toxic. So Monsanto’s product is apparently safe but what about Bayer’s Liberty branded agro-chemicals. In order to win antitrust approval for its $66 billion acquisition of Monsanto, Bayer said today that it has agreed to sell its Liberty branded agro-chemicals and Liberty Link trait technology. That includes Liberty herbicides which Bayer claims is the the ONLY working nonselective herbicide that is effective on tough-to-control grasses and broadleaf weeds. Bayer also says that their product is a preeminent weed management system with a different chemistry and unique site of action (Group 10) unlike any other herbicide on the market. In order to win antitrust approval for its $66 billion acquisition of Monsanto, Bayer said today that it has agreed to sell its Liberty branded agro-chemicals and Liberty Link trait technology. The announcement comes after South Africa's Competition Commission weighed in asking for about $2.5 billion in asset sales.
