Last month, the Washington Growers Clearing House sponsored a series of risk management and federal crop insurance policy seminars for the tree fruit industry. The funding for the seminars was made available through a U.S.D.A. Risk Management grant for education. And as Dan Kelly of the Clearing House points out, the seminars were not the only projects funded with the grant. KELLY: The additional portions of that grant include some additional Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act seminars similar to what we had earlier this year, we will have them in the spring of 2006. We are going to add some issues related to the P.A.C.A. or some question that people had previously so we wanted to expand on that and add that portion to it. In addition, the grant will fund a presentation before the Clearing House February Seventh. KELLY: We're going to have a national speaker, Dr. Lowell Catlett, that will be having a discussion on the future for agriculture and he will be our keynote speaker for at the annual meeting in the early part of 2006. Doctor Catlett is a noted consultant for the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Interior, Defense, and Labor. Kelly adds that since the grant includes co-recipients such as potato grower organizations in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, Catlett is also schedule to speak before those groups as well.
