Ryan Kanode farms wheat with his uncles in Haxtun .

Last Spring the weather changed fast, as it does that time of year, and a trip out to the field to refill seed and fertilizer turned into an opportunity to photograph a breath-taking scene.

Kanode's photograph he made of his uncle refilling seed on the tractor is a winners in the Colorado Department of Agriculture's annual photography contest.

Ryan says the picture he titled "Racing the Rain" captures the sense of urgency they felt as the late afternoon storm clouds swirled in the distance.

Ryan also takes photos for the Anderson Wheat Farms website and of his son's sports teams and he says he will enter again next year to keep his winning streak alive.

Started in 1998, the "Colorado...It's Agricultural" Photography Contest is sponsored by the AgInsights Committee, Colorado Department of Agriculture and Northeastern Junior College. Winning photo are displayed in the Beede-Hamil Agriculture Building at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. They are also available online at www.coloradoagriculture.com.
