11/17/05 Envidor`s promise

Mention to representatives at Bayer Crop Science, like Al Scroggins, their long legacy in providing herbicides and pesticides to the tree fruit industry, and they are quick to elaborate. SCROGGINS: Our tree fruit portfolio is long lasting and it's an old one. We're the inventors of "Guithion" years ago, and we followed up with that with new products. Calypso for example. It's an excellent material for leaphopper and for aphid control. But what has Scroggins and Bayer Crop Science excited these days is the product called Envidor. The product is an acaracide designed to control all important mite species, such as spider mites and pear rust mites, doing so by reducing the mite's ability to produce fatty acids needed for egg production. SCROGGINS: Brand new mode of action and it should have a very nice fit in the Northwest. And we've been looking at some trial work as recently as last summer that looks promising. The promising aspect is that it is cross resistant to other miticides. Envidor this past summer received not only federal registration for use, but also specific use in Washington and Oregon. Prior to U.S. registration, Envidor was already approved and in use in several nations across the world. The product has proven itself in applications to pome and stone fruits, cherries, grapes, and citrus. SCROGGINS: Envidor for example seems to be very long lasting and very effective. So as far as the acaracide market that's a real strong one.
