World Pear Day Pt 2
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Saturday kicks off National Pear Month with World Pear Day.
Pear Bureau Northwest's Kathy Stephenson says in this second World Pear Day, they hope to make it more inclusive ...
KATHY STEPHENSON ... "So, this year though, we're working on adding a consumer aspect to it. So, we're working with retailers that carry pears, social media folks, influencers, and just trying to get the idea that, of all days to enjoy a pear in the month of December, it would be World Pear Day which is December 2nd."
Stephenson says the celebration will be making the most of Social Media ...
KATHY STEPHENSON ... "Yeah, absolutely! The best place to follow us would be on Twitter @USA Pears, and we'll be posting each hour as it goes around the world. So, again, we have about three people across the world who will be doing those postings on an 8-hour shift, so it's kind of fun. We have folks in Russia that will be helping us out, one of our marketing representatives there and then another in the middle east. So, it's a lot of fun to work together as a team to keep the chatter going on Twitter."
Stephenson says the round-the-world tour begins Friday ...
KATHY STEPHENSON ... "Our kick-off starts in New Zealand about 5pm where we're going to have a pear mascot jump off a bungee bridge. So, wearing a pear mascot, they're going to kick things off for us in New Zealand and we're pretty excited about that."
