08/26/05 Broken Limbs on DVD

The celebrated documentary on the changing landscape of Washington's apple industry, "Broken Limbs: Apples, Agriculture, and the New American Farmer", has found its way to public television and several classrooms. But now, the production of Wenatchee area residents Jamie Howell and Guy Evans is out on D.V.D. The film centers on Evans's view of how apple growers must adapt to changes in the industry, some painful, through the eyes of his father, an area orchardist who learns to adapt through sustainable ag practices. EVANS/OTHERS: "It's everything else that has changed, things out in the world." "You know, it's something when you see a fifty year old farmer break into tears. I mean, they just don't break down emotionally. We see that a lot." An official release party of the "Broken Limbs" D.V.D. is set for tonight at 6:30 at Sunshine Farm Market in Chelan. The D.V.D. includes new features. Those include viewer's and teacher's guides, a directors' commentary, a keynote speech by noted sustainable ag advocate Doctor John Ikerd, previously unseen excerpts from Howell and Evans' favorite interviews, and a Spanish translation. The D.V.D. version of "Broken Limbs" is available through stores in North Central Washington. To find a list of the merchants, or to order the D.V.D. directly, or to learn more details about tonight's release party, go to this website & www.brokenlimbs.org.
