It's not easy to be a rancher in 2017... It's even harder to be new to the business of ranching these days. Difficult to be sure, but not impossible.

Challenges new ranchers will face include the ever rising price of land, and that is something you will need plenty of. There is also the market that is impossible to predict, and the variables like weather you can't predict.

Angus breeder Kevin Yon and his wife, Lydia, are the first-generation on their family's farm. Kevin has this advice for others looking to start a ranch of their own.

In an interview with Beef Magazine in 2016, a longtime rancher in Northern Nevada - 91 year old Nelo Mori - told the magazine almost the same thing you just heard from Kevin Yon. He had a couple more worthwhile tips - including finding a Banker that understands agriculture, especially those who are looking to finance a venture.
