There’s been speculation by some in different ag circles that the new Farm Bill will not pass on-time. Some have speculated it won’t pass until 2019.

Matt Roberts, an economist and consultant notes that Congress has not passed a farm bill on time in many years, and predicts there will be an extension in 2018 and that the real bill will come up in 2019.

Representative Dan Newhouse of Washington State recently acknowledged he’s hearing those rumors too, but doesn’t believe it.

He says House Ag Committee Chairman Michael Conaway is determined to get the bill voted on in time for the summer.

Newhouse added that many may not realize the heavy lifting that’s taken place in the background this entire year.

Meanwhile - during a recent teleconference, Ag Agriculture Committee Michael Conaway said that debate on the farm bill would be pushed into early 2018.

The current Farm Bill is scheduled to run through September 30th of next year.
