Corn in 2017

Corn is a crop farmers grow an awful lot of in the US.

Corn is the largest crop grown by American farmers and makes the US the world leader in corn production, accounting for 32% of all the corn grown in the world.

Why we grow so much? It turns out, the US is the only place in the world that has the climate, soil, and water to produce corn in the amounts we do.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated a corn crop for 2017 at a record 14.5 billion bushels of corn harvested this year.

Thats significantly higher than people like Mike Zuzolo from Global Commodity Analytics was expecting.

There are other reasons corn is so popular among farmers... but it usually comes down to demand. Not only do people eat corn, but it's fed to livestock and it's a big component in ethanol production too.
