Colorado Corn's Call to Action

The Colorado Corn Administrative Committee and the Colorado Corn Growers Association are asking growers to speak up as the USDA works out the details of another round of trade aid for farmers bearing the brunt of the trade war with China.

The Trump administration is telling farmers and ranchers that they are making "patriotic" sacrifices in his trade war, according to POLITICO. Colorado Corn's Kim Reddin says growers understand the need to fix trade imbalances with China.

"They're all for that but they're also getting concerned about low prices, increased cost of doing business and not having access to the markets they need. We've been facing 3, 4 years plus of depressed prices in Colorado. These guys have also faced drought, and they've faced hail and they've faced other challenges that just make the situation a little bit larger."

Colorado Corn is working with the National Corn Growers Association to advocate for aid based on 2018 planted acres and the higher of either 2018 production or Price Loss Coverage yield. This payment method is more equitable for corn farmers than a penny/bushel because it accounts for total market impact. Colorado Corn says in a release that a penny a bushel didn't cut it the first time and it won't cut it now .
