Some environmental groups and advocates have in the past pointed the finger at ranching as a cause of soil and land degeneration.

AgDaily brought our attention to a a fourth generation Idaho rancher who says she wants to correct the misperceptions about soil and land health.

Wendy Pratt of Blackfoot, Idaho gave a TEDx Talk in which she says part of the reason this is happening is because a lot of folks don't understand the role that grazing animals play in the environment.

In this talk Pratt says, "Yes on our continent sheep and cattle have been mismanaged in the past."

Pratt says ranching is not the enemy of healthy lands but on the contrary and especially in the west an important tool in maintaining healthy lands.

You can hear Pratt's talk on Youtube by searching for "Grazing to Heal the Earth"

She also writes a ranch blog at The Pastoral Muse.
