The winner of the latest state agriculture themed photography contest says she loves her life as a sheep herder and loves to promote the ag lifestyle.

Caleigh Payne of Alamosa says she takes her camera everywhere, to document the the beauty of Colorado. That makes her a very good illustration of the photo contest's purpose.

The 27th year old sheep herder and rancher won top prize in the 21st annual "Colorado...it's Agricultural" Photography Contest with her photo called "Caught in the Middle." Her winning photograph shows a cowboy on horseback riding through a herd of sheep.

"It's David Brown, who is my boyfriend from Brown Livestock, that's the name of his ranch. He riding through an alleyway basically. And his dog Tank is in the picture too I believe. He is riding back through the sheep as we try to push them forward to move them into the corrals."

Payne says she and Brown make the trek into the mountains and back every year and it's a beautiful trip.

And she says now that she's won some notoriety she'd be happy to give folks information about her job or ranching and herding in general.

Caleigh's photo and other winners pics are displayed in the Beede-Hamil Agriculture Building at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and can still be seen at www.coloradoagriculture.com
