Delisting Gray Wolves Pt 2

I'm Bob Larson. It will be an uphill battle, but U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse is determined to do everything in his power to convince his counterparts in the Senate that Gray Wolves should be removed from the federal list of Endangered Species. An amendment to that effect is included in the Interior Appropriations bill that passed a House vote last month ...

NEWHOUSE ... "This gets into the bigger question of the Endangered Species Act itself. We've had very few species taken off the list once they have been put on ESA listing. The wolf is actually one of the best success stories of a species being recovered that I can think of. They are doing quite well. And, if any species deserves to be taken off the protected list it would be the wolf."

Newhouse says it's not a new idea only endorsed by cattle producers ...

NEWHOUSE ... "The state agency, the State Fish and Wildlife are in favor of doing so. Certainly, the people in the local area are in favor. Even the federal agency has asked for this as well. And so, getting Congress to move forward has been a struggle, but there's a lot of support there. But, like a lot of different things that happen in Congress it takes persistence and you have to keep pushing and pushing and with help from folks back home I think we can make this happen."

Newhouse is encouraging everyone to contact Senators Cantwell and Murray and let them know how you feel about the delisting of Gray Wolves. The bill also includes Wolf-Livestock Loss Demonstration Program.
