Forecast Drought Expansion
Abnormal dryness or drought are currently affecting approximately 4.1 million people in Colorado, which is about 82% of the state's population.
Dave Simeral of the Western Regional Climate Center says much needed rain in several drought stricken parts of the Southwest and Southern Plains will not materialize over the next week.
"Unfortunately it looks like some of the wet weather is going to miss most of the severe drought areas in the southwestern US as well as in the southern plains."
According to the US Drought Monitor for Colorado, more than 81 percent of the state is currently in some level of drought.
The level of exceptional drought the most extreme is currently 5.02 percent up from 3.87 a week ago.
