Seasoned hunter Kenton Clairmont and his brother went on a sheep hunt in Alaska. My brother and I went sheep hunting. It was our third hunt and we were on a quest to get his sheep tag filled. We got dropped off in the Brooks mountain range and spent 12 days in pursuit of filling the sheep tag. We had preparedly physically, mentally, tactically. We did all our homework in terms of flagging some areas that we wanted to look into. It took us 10 days to finally find a legal sheep. We were probably six or 7 miles from our pickup point where we had to meet the airplane in two days. We had been hunting hard for nine days. I'm not sure how far we had covered but I'm guessing close to 80 to 100 miles. We didn't have any GPS. We woke up on Thursday morning and low and behold my brother looked clear across several miles away and saw these two white dots. We picked up our glass and thought we could see horns. We put a spotting scope on it and we were able to pick up horns on both of the sheep. We were up on a mountain range to the south and it dropped down around 2000 feet and across his big flat tundra flat across this little creek and they were up on a little range on the other side of the big flat. We packed up the camp, put it on our back and took off towards them. We knew that we were up against the deadline, running out of time a little bit, we knew that by the time we got over there we would be quite a ways away from the landing strip but we were willing to do it." We pick up the story tomorrow.
