Colorado teachers earn continuing education credits by learning about the ag industry.

Again this year, the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture will offer the Food, Fiber and More Summer Institute.

Foundation Executive Director Betty Blinde says the purpose of this class to assist educators in understanding the agriculture industry and its connection to our environment and society.

“So if a teacher is interested in learning more in depth about agriculture, the Summer Institutes are a great way to do that.”

The class allows teachers and staff to become farmers or ranchers for a day to learn by experience. Students and hosts get more time to share at an evening barbecue. There are tours of farms and ranches where students Learn about the issues and realities of agriculture production from the trenches. Topics covered include natural resources, including water, and the environment.

The Institutes take place in June in Fort Collins, Denver and San Luis Valley. Blinde says they fill up every year.
